Leigh Ann’s Training Philosophy:

The first rule in being a successful trainer is “train yourself first”.  By keeping the bar set high for myself, I am better able to understand my clients and assist them in achieving difficult goals.

There is heavy emphasis placed on tailoring the training to suit the needs of each client.  More importantly, I believe you must make your clients accountable to you by clearly communicating expectations and guidelines for workouts outside of the regularly scheduled appointment.  Even though it means more work for the trainer, it ensures success for the client.

Why did Leigh Ann choose the fitness industry?

I was an overweight teenager and, at the insistence of my doctor, began eating healthy foods and exercising to lose weight. Once I experienced first-hand what exercise can do for a person’s self esteem and well-being, I decided to pursue a degree in exercise science and turn my passion into my livelihood.

Chris’ Training Philosophy:

Physical change requires physical work.

Chris guides his clients towards their goals utilizing traditional and non-traditional (kettelbells, clubs, sledgehammers, tires, etc…) techniques, while maximizing intensity, and guiding nutrition.

Intensity and simplicity are keys to his training techniques.  The “fitness” information available can easily overwhelm an individual.  Chris believes in going back the basics, building a foundation of strength that translates outside the gym.  He believes everyone can and should enjoy a healthy and physical well being.

Why did Chris choose the fitness industry?

Chris believes most individuals are full of hidden potential.  He is in the fitness industry to help individuals surpass pre-conceived limits and accomplish goals never thought possible.

[Jason Van Sant]

Jason got his start in the fitness industry as a trainer in 1998 while attending a local community college in Northern Virginia.  After moving south to Charlottesville, Virginia to continue his studies at the University of Virginia, Jason was introduced to the arena of training athletes through an internship with the university’s Strength and Conditioning staff, working primarily with the football program.   Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree in business, Jason made a change in career focus and went to work for a financial publication firm as an Accounting and Client Services Analyst where he found himself creeping into the very unhealthy lifestyle he had once helped others to overcome.  “The sedentary nature of today’s working world often leads people to adopt the unhealthy habits of eating poorly and skipping regular physical activity.”  Proving his own theory, Jason eventually packed on an extra 30 pounds of weight, which also added 60 points to his total cholesterol.

The encounter with this unhealthy lifestyle is the very thing that drives Jason to be the most effective teacher, trainer, and coach that he can possibly be while living in a country where exercise and nutrition have become an afterthought.  “Being that today’s society is becoming more and more fast paced, we not only find ourselves too busy to engage in physical activity or eat natural and healthy foods, but we have also grown to be impatient with our attempts to positively change the way we look and feel, which often leads to unhealthy, yet popular, dieting and/or over-training.”  This belief leaves Jason with the aspiration to coach people through the obstacles that stand between them and their goals while also setting honest and realistic expectations in regards to the amount of time and effort it may take clients to achieve their desired results.

“I am very excited to be a part of the SYNCStudio personal training team and look forward to the opportunity to coach members of the community through individualized exercise programs that are purposefully designed to help them successfully reach their health and fitness goals.”
